New look and focus

Whew. Well that took a while. I’m sorry I’ve been AWOL for a little while. Just after I resolved (at the end of 2010 – gulp, has it really been that long?!) to upgrade my blog to an all purpose literary site I got a job as a journalist at a newspaper – necessitating pens down on any non-work related journalism, even deliciously fictitious.

However I’ve just taken some time off to write a novel (!?!) so I thought I’d restart the site, with a different look and feel and a different focus. As Philip Pullman once said, you’ve got to “read like a butterfly, write like a bee”. So I thought I may as well write a little about what I’m reading as well.

Though I’m hopeful it will be of general interest, my novel is aimed primarily at young adults (and before you ask, no, it is not about vampires). Given that, I’ll be reading some YA fiction, BUT butterflies don’t just hog one type of flower now do they? SO, I’ll also be reading whatever other fiction takes my fancy. I’ll be reading some new releases, finally getting around to reading some books that have been on my ‘To Read’ list for waaay too long and revisiting some old favourites.

My primary aim is, admittedly, selfish. Namely, to seek inspiration for my own fictional endeavours. But I’ll be jotting down a little review of each book too as I go along. Hopefully it will be of interest to others. I might even flex my journalistic muscles and do a bit of interviewing of authors and publishers to see what gets their blood pumping …

Would love to hear your thoughts on what I’m reading and what I think of it. Among other things I’m re-reading the beloved Harry Potter series at the moment. Plus I’ve got Kate Forsyth’s new novel Bitter Greens and Bryce Courtenay’s The Power of One in my drawer. Something for everyone there, surely!

Anon.
